A member of the notorious Daluma pirate guild, she stands out as probably the most refined pirate around—well-educated, cultured, fluent in customs from across the galaxy. She's particularly skilled in the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Her looks don't hurt either; there are persistent rumors of "Ryoko Balta Fan Clubs" scattered throughout various Galaxy Police stations, with officers allegedly willing to abandon their posts just to join her crew.
Life in the pirate guild was isolating. She had few genuine allies and clashed frequently with Tarant Shank, the guild's worst offender. Kyo Komachi was one of her few real friends within the organization.
As a shape-shifter, Ryoko regularly used this ability to infiltrate G.P. stations and extract intelligence.
