A character from Galaxy Express 999 who shows up in episodes 34 and 35. Mekki lives on Plated Witch, a planet where her whole body is covered in gold plating—and that plating basically defines her social status and her entire life.
She's got a boyfriend named Wheeler Lock, but here's the thing: they're not allowed to be together because he doesn't have the gold plating she does. It's one of those rigid class-system situations that makes their relationship impossible, at least at first.
The turning point comes when the planet's heart gets destroyed, which causes all the gold plating to disappear from Plated Witch. Once that happens, Mekki and Wheeler are finally free to be together without those artificial boundaries keeping them apart.
