Motoi is a Kumogakure shinobi assigned to Island Turtle.
Manga debut: Chapter #492
Anime debut: Naruto Shippūden Episode #243
Motoi's complicated relationship with Killer B defines him. As kids, the two were close friends, but everything changed when Motoi's father died during a mission to recapture a rampaging Eight-Tails. The loss twisted into something darker—Motoi couldn't separate his grief from the beast itself, and when B was chosen to become its jinchūriki, that anger found a target. Like plenty of other villagers, Motoi blamed B for what was happening, even though B had no real choice in the matter.
The resentment festered enough that Motoi eventually attempted to assassinate B in revenge. It didn't go well. B disarmed him without much effort, and despite Motoi trying to hide his identity, B saw right through it. Instead of retaliation, B greeted him the way they used to—with a fist bump—like nothing had fundamentally broken between them. That kindness apparently crushed Motoi more than any fight could have. He couldn't face B after that. For three decades, they didn't speak, and Motoi spent those years wrestling with guilt while slowly coming to recognize B as the hero his village had always needed him to be.
