Rey is a Force-sensitive scavenger who grew up on Jakku, a desert planet that's seen better days. Born in 15 ABY, she was abandoned by her parents as a kid and basically raised herself, picking through wreckage from the Galactic Civil War to survive. She became a skilled mechanic and pilot out of pure necessity—when you're alone in the desert, you learn to fix things and take care of yourself or you don't make it.
For years her life was pretty routine: scavenge, fix, repeat. But in 34 ABY, everything changed when the search for Luke Skywalker brought both the First Order and the Resistance crashing onto Jakku. Rey got pulled into their conflict almost by accident, starting with helping a little astromech droid named BB-8. That led to her meeting Finn, a stormtrooper who'd defected, and eventually crossing paths with Han Solo and Chewbacca—both old hands from the war.
What she didn't expect was discovering she had Force powers, or that her biggest obstacle would be Kylo Ren, Han's own son, who'd gone full dark side and was now a top enforcer for the First Order. As her abilities surfaced, Luke Skywalker himself took her on as a student, setting her on the path to becoming a Jedi.
