Shouko's spent most of her life stuck in bed with a chronic illness, which has left her pretty isolated despite Maya checking in on her constantly. She's desperate to experience normal school life and be around people her own age. Everything changes when she gets selected as a Fafner pilot—a surprising pick given her physical limitations, but her natural aptitude for the job is undeniable. Piloting becomes her shot at proving herself, especially to Kazuki, who she's got a serious crush on. Her determination to make the most of this opportunity ends up pushing everyone around her to grow in their own ways.
She lives with her adoptive mother Youko and a white cat with a short tail named Kuu. She pilots the Mark VI.
