Torune was a ninja of Konohagakure and a member of the Aburame clan, though he's best known for his high rank within Root, Danzo's elite subdivision. Danzo himself noted that Torune and his partner Fū were among Root's most skilled operatives.
Like all Aburame, Torune used insects in combat, but his technique was unusual even by clan standards. He controlled nano-sized venomous insects that covered his body—so dangerous that he kept himself almost completely covered in everyday life, wearing gloves and a mask to avoid accidentally infecting people. In battle, these insects could spread across an opponent's skin, causing severe pain and potentially fatal poisoning. He could call them off with a single touch and had an antidote to neutralize the venom, though Shikuro Aburame was the only other person known to have both the cure and natural immunity to the poison. This led most to assume Torune was Shikuro's son.
His typical outfit reflected his Root affiliation: a short black jacket with red strands draped over the shoulders (similar to what Sai and Fū wore), paired with an all-black high-collared outfit, a red sash, and what looked like an apron—styling that somewhat echoed Neji Hyūga's aesthetic. He carried multiple pouches and wore black gloves as standard. His mask covered everything but his lower face, with built-in glasses obscuring his eyes in the style common to the Aburame clan. He also carried a tantō on his back, though he was never seen actually using it.
When he was first introduced, Torune appeared as a regular Konoha ANBU, complete with the standard white cloak and mask.
