Tomie
Tomie is fundamentally self-absorbed and manipulative. She uses her appearance as a weapon, seducing men purely for what she can get out of them—never developing genuine feelings for anyone. The moment a man stops being useful, she discards him without hesitation. She's intensely jealous of other women and will actively work to sabotage their relationships if given the chance. Her sense of entitlement means she has no qualms about destroying people's lives for her own amusement.
Almost nothing is known about Tomie's actual past or even her real surname. It's unclear when or how she developed her bizarre ability to regenerate after death, or if she even understood what was happening to her at first. Before 1986, witnesses described her as an ordinary—if exceptionally beautiful and flirtatious—girl who aged normally. That all changed during a school field trip to Inariyawa, a mountain near her school.
At the time, Tomie was pressuring a teacher she'd been sleeping with to leave his wife. When a classmate who'd become obsessed with her confronted her, she taunted him mercilessly. During the resulting struggle, Tomie went over a cliff. Thinking she was dead, the panicked teacher decided to cover it up by dismembering her body with help from the other boys. The problem was she wasn't actually dead yet—making the whole ordeal even more horrifying than they'd planned. They dumped her remains in scattered locations, hoping they'd never be found.
Some pieces were discovered and identified as Tomie's remains, which were then cremated. Her death was officially blamed on a serial killer, and a funeral was held. So it came as an understandable shock when Tomie showed up to class the next day like nothing had happened. The psychological impact on her classmates was severe—some descended into outright madness, and when two of them tried going to the police, the others turned violent to stop them. Tomie vanished shortly after.
From there, she began resurfacing across Japan at random locations, often leading men to violence and murder in her wake. She died multiple times over the years, but kept coming back. Authorities largely dismissed these incidents as unrelated cases until around 1995, by which point a coordinated response against her was finally attempted.
