Shunsou is an art student living with Oogai Mori, a military doctor and author. He comes across as distant and indifferent most of the time, though he clearly cares about both Mori and Mori's adopted daughter Mei—he's just not about to say it out loud.
As an artist, he's genuinely gifted. When he finds something worth painting, he gets completely absorbed in it, and there's something unusual about his work: his paintings have a tendency to come to life on their own.
