Zackie is a young student from Violet City who attends Earl Dervish's Pokémon academy. He appeared in "A Bout With Sprout."
Pretty much the first thing Zackie does is spot Ash's Pikachu and decide it's wild—so naturally, he and another student named Lizzy immediately start fighting over it. He's desperate to catch it, pulling on Pikachu's arms and everything. When Ash shows up for a class presentation, Zackie doesn't hold back: he straight-up calls Ash a loser for not winning the Indigo League. He also tries to convince Pikachu to ditch Ash and come with him instead, which doesn't work.
Determined to get his way, Zackie steals a Poké Ball from Ash's belt and chases Pikachu into the forest. The plan backfires spectacularly—he ends up catching a random Bellsprout instead. At first he's upset about it, but after seeing Bellsprout's goofy, wobbly movements, he actually becomes attached to it.
Later on, he and Ash team up to escape a Team Rocket trap and head toward Sprout Tower. Zackie throws a fit when Ash refuses to trade him (presumably for Pikachu), but by the time they reach the tower, he's genuinely bonded with his Bellsprout. When Team Rocket shows up to cause trouble, Bellsprout comes through and stops them. Zackie ends things on a better note with Ash, wishing him luck and hoping they'll battle someday.
