Daizou lives on Blue Point Isle in the seaside town of Blue Lagoon alongside his son, Dayton. The two run an annual Parade of the Chinchou—a major local event where Daizou uses a special whistle to call the Chinchou from the lake, causing them to glow as they gather for the celebration.
The parade is really just the beginning of a bigger tradition: every year, the Chinchou migrate from Blue Lagoon across to the other side of the island to start fresh in the open ocean. When Ash and his friends showed up for the festivities, they ended up tagging along for the whole journey.
Things got complicated fast. As the group escorted the migrating Chinchou across a cliffside bridge, Team Rocket attacked from the opposite end, trying to swipe the whole school. The bridge got destroyed in the chaos—a botched trap that separated Daizou, Misty, and Brock from Ash and Dayton. Everyone eventually regrouped on a beach on the far side of the island, but Team Rocket wasn't done yet. They cornered the Chinchou in a pit before Pikachu sent them packing for good.
After watching the Chinchou successfully reach the sea, Daizou and Dayton said goodbye to their new friends.
