Yan Si is a young Chinese beauty blogger who fell into a coma following an accident during a live stream. While unconscious, she's recruited by a government-backed video game company to beta test an immersive MMORPG in virtual reality—part of an experimental program that uses comatose patients as test subjects.
She regains consciousness inside the game itself, where an NPC named Jack greets her and lays out her options: she can either return to the hospital in her coma, or stay and participate in the experiment. In exchange for testing the game, she gets to experience an adventure set in ancient imperial China, where her choices and cosmetic customization actually shape how her story unfolds.
