Not much is known about Kosaburo's background. He trained to become a Team Rocket member alongside Musashi, Kojiro, and Yamato, eventually getting paired with Yamato as his permanent partner. Together they work as a capture team, hunting down Pokémon for the organization.
One of his defining character traits is that almost everyone—including other characters in the series—constantly gets his name wrong, which has become a running joke among fans.
For the first couple of episodes, Kosaburo showed up without any Pokémon of his own, leaving Yamato to handle all the actual battles. It wasn't until his third appearance that he finally caught some. That said, he's got solid Rocket skills in other areas: he's skilled at disguises and surprisingly strong physically—he once threw Musashi straight into a wall.
