Tanishi's a cheerful guy who practically lives at the local cat cafe. He's got a real soft spot for one particular calico cat there, spending way more time with that one than the others—fans definitely noticed the connection.
Everything changes after the Nyandemic hits. Tanishi gets caught in the chaos of the cat swarms, and with a sprained ankle from a car crash (he was trying to avoid hitting cats, of all things), he can't escape. He ends up transformed into a cat himself. When he eventually finds the main duo, he's not aggressive or anything—he even tries showing trust by rolling over and exposing his belly. They leave him behind anyway. What happens to him after that is anyone's guess.
Appearance (Human): Tanishi's a muscular guy with a light stubble, a distinctive red mohawk, and he always wears goggles. His usual outfit is a white shirt, green pants, and boots.
Appearance (Cat): He becomes what looks like a British Shorthair with yellow eyes and orange fur covered in stripes, plus a white underbelly. Weirdly, he keeps the goggles even as a cat—whether he deliberately held onto them or just couldn't be bothered to drop them is unclear.
He shows up on the cover art for both the first manga and anime volumes, depicted either mid-transformation or surrounded by the cat hordes.
