Heiya's childhood was marked by family turmoil. Her mother carried on an affair right in their home and made young Heiya complicit by demanding secrecy. While her father seemed oblivious—buried in work—the neighbors certainly weren't. They weaponized the scandal to mock her relentlessly.
Things came to a head in high school when Heiya's mother died in a car accident alongside her lover. The loss didn't straighten Heiya out. Instead, she adopted a similarly reckless approach to relationships, openly pursuing boys who were already taken. She developed a reputation for frivolous behavior around campus.
One notable exception to her wild streak: Heiya refused to smoke, even as her friends puffed away around her. She was deliberate about this choice, driven by a specific vision of her future—marrying her soulmate and having kids. She didn't want nicotine damaging her future children's health.
