Volcanion is a primarily maroon, quadrupedal Pokémon with a distinctly mechanical appearance. It has pointed ears with blue interiors, bright blue eyes, and yellow markings around them that give it an eyebrow-and-lash effect. Its yellow pointed mandible and cheek spikes add to its sharp, angular look.
The body structure is segmented: a hunched front portion (considerably bulkier), a thin blue waist, and smaller hips mirroring the front. Four yellow diamond-shaped bumps run down its chest. Its legs are thicker and maroon at the bottom, thinner and blue above, with thin yellow bands at the joints and short blunt growths at each ankle. Each foot has three yellow claws. The tail is short and tapered with a small blue bump along the top.
What really sets Volcanion apart are the two arm-like cannons on its back. These normally hold together as a ring, each separated into three segments by bright blue lines. Each segment sports a blue dot and a short blunt growth, while the top segments have four small yellow bumps.
Those back cannons are the real deal—Volcanion expels steam from them at incredibly high pressure, capable of blowing away mountains. The catch is it needs water to function. Run the tank dry and you'll hear a bell-like sound, the cannon markings turn red, and it loses access to all Water-type moves until it refills. Volcanion can apparently live for several centuries, which is pretty wild.
It's the only known Pokémon that can learn Steam Eruption. As of Generation IX, it's also the sole user of Scald.
