Boris runs the abbey with an iron fist, and there's nothing remotely holy about it. He's a manipulative abbot who poses as a man of faith while doing pretty much everything the opposite of that—his hypocrisy is the whole point. He has zero tolerance for failure and won't hesitate to get rid of kids who don't meet his standards. Everyone at the abbey, from the boys to his staff of scientists and armed guards, operates under constant fear. He even has cameras everywhere to keep tabs on everyone.
What makes Boris effective is that he rules through intimidation. He's strategic about who he trusts; guys like Tala and Kai get slightly better treatment because they're reliable and useful to him. But don't mistake that for genuine favor—it's just pragmatism. He's a calculated liar who knows exactly how to leverage fear and control to get what he wants. His obsession with surveillance and dominance has fans speculating about how far his cruelty actually goes.
The character's malice is the whole appeal. He's not sympathetic or redeemable; he's just ruthlessly, unambiguously bad in a way that works for the story. Voiced by Takehito Koyasu in Japanese and Kent Williams in English.
