Kou Yaten comes across as distant and cynical, with little interest in socializing or sports. His remarks tend to be sharp and blunt—so much so that the other Starlights have called him out for alienating potential fans with his attitude. Despite this cold exterior, he and Luna have a genuine connection; in fact, Luna's encouragement was key to keeping him motivated during a critical moment.
The anime portrays Yaten as the most spiritually attuned of the Starlights, able to sense when Starseeds are being harvested by Sailor Galaxia. He's deeply mistrustful of humans and fixated on finding Princess Kakyuu so the group can leave Earth immediately. Learning that Usagi is Sailor Moon only reinforces his skepticism—he strongly believes Seiya should distance himself from her, a position shared by Taiki, Sailor Uranus, and Sailor Neptune. The rest of the team's desire to work together with the Guardian Senshi and the princess doesn't sway him.
