Kagine is a PE teacher at Karakura High School known for being intense, built, and no-nonsense about discipline. He's the type to actually care when students skip class—he got seriously pissed when Ichigo ditched to catch Don Kanonji on TV, and was even more annoyed that none of Ichigo's classmates tried to stop him. Things got awkward when Rukia started crying during a confrontation; Kagine got visibly uncomfortable, which gave Ichigo's friends the opening they needed to slip away. That just made him angrier.
He shows up again during the Bount arc in the anime, briefly talking to students about sports.
