The original Shen Jiu was sharp and ruthless—the kind of person who'd go for your eyes if it meant survival, even as a slave child. He built a reputation for cold elegance and biting sarcasm, keeping everyone at arm's length with an untouchable air that made him seem almost divine to those around him. Luo Binghe especially noted how impossible he was to get close to.
After transmigration, Shen Yuan—a sarcastic millennial nerd from a wealthy family in his past life—now inhabits Shen Jiu's body and has to navigate the world as this cultivator. The culture clash is constant. He's got a running commentary going on with the SYSTEM, perpetually frustrated with the absurd plot situations he's stuck in. His frustration peaks whenever he's around Shang Qinghua, the original author; he doesn't hold back yelling at him about the ridiculous storylines they both now have to live through. That combination of spiky internal monologue, wealth-kid entitlement, and general bewilderment makes him pretty dense in a lot of ways, but it also makes him feel weirdly human compared to the cold original.
