Edogawa shows up early in Sakigake!! Otokojuku as one of the first real obstacles Tsurugi Momotaro has to deal with. He's basically running the second-year class while Akashi Gouji is away, which puts him in a position of power—and he's not shy about using it. The two end up at odds pretty quickly, setting up one of the manga's early conflicts.
