Chrono Shindou is the protagonist of Cardfight!! Vanguard G, best known for his transformation from a withdrawn, disinterested kid into someone genuinely passionate about the game. Growing up in an orphanage where Vanguard wasn't available, he entered the series with no experience playing at all—but that changed everything once he got into it.
He's recognizable by his messy red hair with a distinctive pink swirl down the middle and green eyes; fans often joke that his hair looks like soft-serve ice cream. Early on he wore a purple school uniform over a red shirt, but later switched to a more casual blue jacket with brown trousers and black boots. From Turn 27 onward, he's shown wearing a white sleeveless jacket with black trim.
Chrono's Vanguard circle color is violet-red. His name is pretty on-the-nose—"Shindou" means "new lead" in Japanese, while "Chrono" refers to time.
What sets him apart as a player is a combination of natural gifts. He's got genuinely strong imagination, which other characters have noted is crucial for cardfighting. He's also unusually lucky; he managed to activate Mystery Flare Dragon's skill on his first attempt, which shouldn't have been possible. Beyond cards, he has impressive athletic ability—he once caught two fortunes with his head. Weirdly, he can also hear the voices of Cray beings, something he demonstrated in the first episode.
