Toya (called Touya in the English dub) is best known as a member of the Shadow Channelers, though the team's real name was the Shinobi of the Spirit World. He's almost always paired with Jin, and the two seem genuinely close. Unlike his more playful demon companion, Toya comes across as serious and fairly humorless—though he does have a genuine honor code. He actually called out team leader Risho for cheating, which earned him respect despite being on the same side.
His most defining trait is his ice manipulation abilities. Fans often note that he's implied to be the strongest ice demon in the entire series, and his mastery over cold and freezing techniques becomes his signature throughout.
Toya makes his first real impact during the Dark Tournament arc, where he faces Kurama in a heated match. Going in, he's furious that Kurama killed Gama in the previous round, and Kurama himself is basically a sitting duck thanks to Gama's seal trapping his spirit energy. Despite this advantage, Toya loses when Kurama seeds his own body with the Death Plant and uses it to impale him—a desperate but effective move that turns the tables completely.
After the Dark Tournament, he gets recruited by Kurama to work under the Demon Lord Yomi in the Makai Tournament arc. He manages to reach A+ Class and actually becomes the strongest of the six demons in that arc. Eventually though, he's defeated by Kuju, an S-Class demon (and brother to Natsume, who Chu had fallen for hard). After everything wraps up, Toya, Jin, Chu, and Rinku say goodbye to Yusuke's group. What happens to them after that remains a mystery.
