Kotarou is the main character of Rewrite. He's a high school student with a pretty carefree, cocky attitude—the kind of guy who doesn't always realize he's sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. This tendency to get involved in other people's drama means he constantly finds himself caught up in weird situations.
Early on, the story basically follows Kotarou's misadventures as he tries to get the Occult Club up and running again at his school. But as things escalate and the plot gets darker, he changes pretty drastically. Who he becomes—his personality, his goals, what he actually cares about—depends entirely on which heroine's route you're on and what choices you make. It's a pretty significant transformation from the annoying, self-absorbed kid at the start.
