Karibuchi Hikari is the main character of Brave Witches and a witch from Fuso. She's the younger sister of Karibuchi Takami, who serves in the Fuso Navy, and she partners with Kanno Naoe as part of the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing.
Hikari joined Sasebo navy military school hoping to become an aerial witch like her sister. When the 502nd needed a replacement witch stationed in Europe, she volunteered for a logistics mission at Suomus's Kauhava base. Her sister got assigned to the same unit and carrier—but after a Neuroi attack left Takami seriously injured and unable to join the 502nd, Gundula Rall disguised Hikari as her sister to bring her into the wing instead.
What makes Hikari interesting is the tension between her biggest weakness and strength. She's determined, optimistic, and genuinely wants to prove herself, but she's also stubborn to a fault and sometimes reckless. She tends to be clumsy with her striker unit and impulsive in general, partly because she's so focused on stepping out of Takami's shadow. Whenever someone tells her she can't do something or criticizes her abilities, she takes it as a personal challenge and pushes herself hard—sometimes too hard, to the point of overextending herself. That said, her bullheaded refusal to give up has saved the day more than once, letting her and her teammates pull off wins against the odds. She's also a quick thinker with creative problem-solving skills, and she's known for trying to lift everyone's spirits when morale dips. People tend to underestimate her because she's easily impressed and a bit clumsy, but that determination runs deep.
