Ishijima was supposed to face off against champion Yuushou Sakaki, but Yuushou never showed up—which absolutely infuriated him. Instead, his manager Nico Smiley set up an Action Duel between Ishijima and Yuushou's son, Yuuya Sakaki.
When the match was announced, Yuuya was nowhere to be found. The crowd and Ishijima both figured the kid was just as much of a coward as his father. Then Yuuya suddenly appeared behind him dressed like a harlequin, and the audience had to literally point out his opponent to him. Ishijima wasn't amused by the theatrics—he saw it as straight-up disrespectful—but he let Yuuya go first anyway.
The Duel seemed firmly in Ishijima's control until Yuuya pulled off a Pendulum Summon and brought three monsters onto the field at once. Ishijima was stunned; he'd never seen anything like it. Nico Smiley stepped in to confirm that Yuuya's Duel Disk had registered the move without errors, so it was legitimate.
