He initially appears to be on the Director's side, helping track down the Singularity and nodding along with the plan. But there's a catch—knowing full well the Director would trigger a Devouring Apocalypse without hesitation, he deliberately sends him on a pointless errand to buy time while he locates and stashes the real Singularity himself.
Midway through the story, it comes out that he was actually one of the architects behind the Managarm Project, working alongside Johannes von Schicksal and Aisha Gauche. The project ended badly, and he clearly has mixed feelings about it—he's openly sorry about how it went down, but he's also convinced that despite everything, the techniques they developed were worth it. Those same methods became the foundation for creating the New-Type God Arcs.
