Switzerland is a mountainous nation wedged between the Alps with a centuries-long reputation for staying neutral no matter what. He's got blonde hair in a chin-length bob, and while older artwork showed blue eyes, newer stuff and the anime went with green instead.
As kids, Switzerland and Austria were pretty close—Switzerland basically spent his time pulling Austria out of trouble whenever Hungary beat him up. But that friendship didn't last. Their boss couldn't tell them apart, and the confusion drove a wedge between them that never really healed. These days they can't stand each other, and Switzerland will flat-out deny they were ever friends.
After World War I, Switzerland saved Liechtenstein from starving when things were really bad. The kicker? He was barely eating either at the time, but he never asked for anything in return—he just figured it was his job to help a neighbor. Liechtenstein's basically been like a sister to him ever since and actually lives with him. She's honestly the only person he's genuinely nice to, and he's protective of her to the point of being a little overprotective.
People describe him as strong and unified, but also xenophobic, cheap, and kind of a hermit. Everyone knows he's peaceful enough—until you remember he's got one of the world's strongest armies, produces weapons at an industrial scale, and controls serious money. He's a workaholic who won't leave a job half-done, has a short fuse, but turns gentle and kind around Liechtenstein. The Vatican even hired him as a mercenary at one point. Oh, and he's got three pet goats named after famous Swiss mountains: Eiger, Jungfrau, and Mönch.
He's made it very clear that he does not—and this apparently needed saying—"ride magic sky swings or run around mountains in a milkmaid dress playing with goats while eating cheese." He also gets trigger-happy whenever Italy forgets to wear pants and just wanders across his border.
National flower: Edelweiss

Note: His name appears in katakana as「バッシュ」("Basshu"). Fans sometimes romanize his first name as "Vash," but "Basch" is more accurate since German "v" sounds like English "f," which better matches the original katakana.
