Dozle Zabi is the second son of Degwin Sodo Zabi and commander of the Principality of Zeon's Space Attack Force. He basically functioned as an admiral during the One Year War, coordinating fleet movements across space to push Zeon's military advantage.
Physically imposing—tall, scarred, and burly—Dozle has an intimidating presence, but he's actually one of the more genuinely likable members of the Zabi family. He's known for treating his troops well and taking a real interest in their welfare. On the personal side, he's a devoted husband to his wife Zena and father to their young daughter Mineva. He was particularly close to his younger brother Garma and had hopes of seeing him rise through the ranks as an admiral someday.
When Garma died in battle, Dozle blamed Char Aznable for incompetence and dismissed him from his division. His resentment only deepened when his sister Kycilia took Char into her own command—Dozle actively despises Kycilia, and this just made things worse. Speaking of frontline action, Dozle was legendary among his troops for personally leading them into combat. He and his close friend and bodyguard Shin Matsunaga were famous for conducting "inspections" in Dozle's custom MS-06F Zaku II that would turn into full-on raids against Federation forces.
Dozle's command center sat in the heart of the asteroid Solomon (later renamed Konpei Island by the Federation). In late UC0079, the Federation attacked in force. During the assault, Dozle evacuated non-essential personnel, but the Federation deployed a solar system array that destroyed anything trying to escape. Rather than abandon his troops, Dozle climbed into his mobile armor—the massive MA-08 Big Zam—and sortied to buy time. He fought the Gundam and initially held his own, but a kamikaze attack from a core fighter disabled his I-Field generator. The Gundam finished the job, crippling the Big Zam. In his final moments, Dozle exited the cockpit and fired a machine gun at Amuro, shaking the pilot's confidence for a moment before the Big Zam exploded, killing him. His death essentially marked the beginning of the end for Zeon's space forces.
