Erika's caught in a lie when she tells her friends she has a boyfriend—except she doesn't, so she grabs a random guy's photo to prove it. Problem is, he actually goes to her school. After she basically begs him, he agrees to fake-date her, but only if she'll act like his "pet dog" as part of the deal. It's pretty degrading, but she goes along with it.
The thing is, she actually develops real feelings for him despite how badly he treats her. She becomes kind of obsessed with winning him over, clinging to the fake relationship even as he acts cold and mean. It's a pretty messy dynamic—she's desperate for his affection while he's clearly just using the situation to his advantage.
