Alm-Onji
Heidi's grandfather, Alm-Onji makes his home in a small cabin high up in the Alps. He's the type of person who's genuinely at peace in the mountains—loves them, actually, even with all the hardship that comes with living so isolated and remote.
People in town have him figured all wrong. Yeah, he doesn't get along with city folk and keeps his distance from civilization, which earned him a reputation as this angry, difficult guy. But that's not really who he is. He's actually wise and thoughtful, just not interested in playing nice with people he doesn't trust. His relationship with Heidi tells you everything you need to know about his real character—he's gentle with her, genuinely kind.
One day, Heidi's aunt just shows up and leaves the girl with him. And that's when his softer side really comes out. He takes to her immediately and becomes her anchor in the mountains.
