Marucho is the brain of the Brawlers—a walking encyclopedia who approaches every battle like a data analyst. As the only son of a millionaire, he's got the resources to back up his strategic mind, and he uses them well. He's best known for his mastery of combination plays and Aquos attributes, though his reliance on data sometimes trips him up when he has to make quick decisions. Fans often note how he worries about the other Brawlers, especially Dan, and serves as his strategic right hand.
Growing up, Marucho was extremely obedient to his parents out of fear, but joining the Brawlers changed him. He's come to terms with his past now, understanding that he was just trying to make them happy, and has no regrets about how it shaped who he is. He still respects his parents, though—he's just not ruled by that fear anymore. He's got a butler named Kato looking after him.
His partnership with Aquos Preyas started when the Bakugan literally crashed his house party after he moved into Dan's neighborhood. When Klaus Von Hertzon sent Preyas to the Doom Dimension, Marucho was desperate enough to follow Klaus through a portal to get him back. Dan and Runo managed to retrieve Preyas using Pure Light, and when Preyas evolved, he split into Angelo and Diablo—but unlike other Bakugan, Preyas multiplied instead of transforming completely, so Marucho kept the original. Preyas has a useful ability called "Change of Attribute" that lets him exploit an opponent's gate card. When Frosch tested Marucho, he had to confront an old version of himself—the kid who always listened—and while it unsettled him, he accepted it and passed the test.
In New Vestroia, Marucho followed Dan and Drago into the new world. He joined the Resistance, but by episode 4 he was frustrated that he didn't have an Aquos Bakugan yet. He set out on his own to find one and ended up meeting Elfin in a jungle trap. Elfin, who has a Sailor Moon-like appearance, knew Preyas from before and agreed to partner with him once he proved himself.
By Gundalian Invaders, Marucho had a new look and new Bakugan. He created Bakugan Interspace using phantom data Ren gave him—a platform that lets brawlers worldwide compete against each other. Though he handed off administrative duties to let it expand, that decision brought in some questionable characters, including a sketchy card dealer named Dylan. He picked up Akwimos as his new guardian and also acquired Tristar from Gundalia. When he battled Jack Punt from Team Anubias, things were looking up until Zenthon showed up and overwhelmed Tristar with a laser blast. The match was called a draw, but Marucho was struck by how destructive Mechtogan could be—comparable to Drago itself.
