Shizu is a talented swordsman who travels around in a dune buggy with Riku, a talking dog who serves as his companion. He's best known for his skill with a blade, though his anime presence is pretty limited—he only shows up in one episode. The novels, though, feature multiple stories centered on him and Riku, most of them narrated by Riku himself.
When Kino and Hermes eventually cross paths with Shizu and Riku again later in the novels, there's an awkward detail: Kino can only seem to remember Riku's name, not Shizu's.
Shizu happens to be the son of the hedonistic king featured in the sixth anime episode.
