A third year middle school student who fits right into Rumiko Takahashi's tradition of complex heroines—think Lum or Akane Tendo. Kagome can be genuinely sweet and caring one moment, then absolutely terrifying the next if you push her buttons. She's the kind of person who'll charge headfirst into danger to help someone, consequences be damned. Honestly, a lot of Inuyasha's character development and friendships wouldn't have happened without her influence. She's also got the whole package: her kindness and looks attract romantic attention from multiple guys over the course of their journey.
The Beads of Subjugation around Inuyasha's neck are basically her remote control. Whenever she yells "Sit!" the beads drag him face-first into the ground—a power she only has because his aggressive nature was too dangerous to risk when he first woke up. Early on, Kagome leans on this trick pretty heavily for crowd control, but as the series goes on, she uses it less and less. By later in the story, it's mostly just a running gag at this point.
