Julius is the 28th Magic Emperor of Clover Kingdom's Order of the Magic Knights.
A noble by birth, Julius doesn't give a damn about bloodlines or social standing—he cares only about whether you're actually useful and contribute to making the world better. This attitude has led some fans to theorize he might've come from common origins himself, though that's never been confirmed.
He joined the Grey Deer squad (now known as the Aqua Deer) after acing the Magic Knights exam, and eventually rose to captain the squad. That's where he famously recruited Yami Sukehiro, the current Black Bulls captain. Despite Yami being a foreigner and outcast in the kingdom, Julius saw his potential immediately. Their friendship became one of the show's best dynamics.
Interestingly, Julius never actually craved the Wizard King position. As a squad captain, he was genuinely satisfied—the role let him indulge his obsession with magic and constantly meet powerful mages. The promotion to Wizard King happened anyway, but he was never driven by ambition the way you might expect.
He's best known for his ridiculous magical knowledge, which honestly puts every other captain to shame. When Yuno suddenly gained a new power during a dungeon investigation, Julius instantly identified it as the wind spirit Sylph—something Yuno himself had no clue about. He's also managed to decipher ancient magical artifacts from the very first Wizard King, created over 500 years ago. Even he has his limits though; Asta's anti-magic sword genuinely caught him off guard.
His easygoing personality is deceptive. Julius can be ruthless when it matters. He consistently shows kindness and forgiveness throughout the series, but that's not weakness. During his fight with Patolli, he chose to capture him alive to save William's body rather than just kill him outright. Yet when the Eye of The Midnight Sun attacked and captured Asta, Julius killed two of their members without hesitation. He'll end a life in a heartbeat if it means protecting the people he cares about.
