Cooler is the main villain of Dragon Ball Z movies five and six, designed by Akira Toriyama himself for Toei Animation's theatrical releases. He's Freeza's older brother and the eldest son of King Cold. Like his brother, Cooler can transform to boost his power—the films confirm he has access to the same number of forms as Freeza, plus an additional fifth form that's even stronger.
In Cooler's Revenge, he shows up on Earth specifically to kill Goku, the Saiyan who fought his brother. When he goes all out in his final form, the change is dramatic: he grows massive, gains four horns that crown his head and spikes along his forearms, and his face becomes completely hidden behind a mask-like structure except for his now-red, pupilless eyes. Goku manages to throw him into the Sun as a Super Saiyan, but it's not the end—fragments of Cooler merge with the Big Gete Star, giving him control over it and the ability to mass-produce mechanical versions of himself that can repair and upgrade infinitely. These Metal Coolas are actually stronger than organic Cooler and can even use Instant Transmission, making them a serious threat to two Super Saiyans at once.
Return of Cooler picks up with Cooler using his new mechanical army to try absorbing New Namek, though Goku and Vegeta ultimately destroy both him and the star.
He pops up briefly in Fusion Reborn and Dragon Ball GT when villains escape from Hell. He also appears as a phantom in the Famicom game (later remade for Playdia) Side Story: The Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, alongside ghost versions of Freeza, Tullece, and Lord Slug, though these are just illusory warriors meant to slow down the heroes.
