Gates Capa first showed up as wingman to Rosamia Badam during Baund Doc prototype testing at Side 2, piloting the first unit with Loren Nakamoto handling operations. Things got messy when Rosamia bolted into a colony with Kamille Bidan—Gates chased them down and ended up in a close-quarters fight with Kamille before dragging Rosamia back. Later, he stuck with Rosamia as she moved up to the MRX-010 Psyco Gundam Mk-II, flying his own Baund-Doc alongside her.
When Rosamia went hunting for the Argama, Gates found himself defending the Dogosse Giar against Reccoa Londe's squad. But when Rosamia was killed in action, something broke in him—he had some kind of mental breakdown right before the Dogosse-Gier went down. What actually happened to him after that is anyone's guess.
