Takatora's whole philosophy of loyalty comes down to survival and peace-building. He starts out as a soldier who won't question his lord—just follows orders without complaint. But spending time with Nagamasa and Oichi shifts something in him. Their willingness to speak their minds teaches him that real devotion isn't blind obedience. Instead, it means staying alive and creating a stable future for your master. That's a weird take compared to the whole "die honorably for your lord" thing, but Takatora commits to it completely. His thinking ends up aligning with Ieyasu's in ways that matter.
He comes across as distant and composed, but that's partly a professional mask. Underneath, he's genuinely principled and compassionate—he can't stand cruelty or betrayal, and he'll soften his stance if he understands where someone's coming from. He's also weirdly self-conscious about loving mochi and manju, tries to keep that under wraps. Gifts from the Azai clan mean everything to him, and don't even think about mocking his treasured hand towel. He values friendship deeply and is completely oblivious when it comes to romance.
His grief for fallen comrades isn't something he hides well, despite his composed exterior. He swears never to forget them and takes their debts onto himself, living partly through their memory. Each game has him driven forward by someone's death.
Nagamasa and Oichi basically saved his life and shaped who he became. Nagamasa's his symbol of hope and kindness; Oichi is like a mother to him. Yoshitsugu's his best friend—the one person he can be completely unguarded with. He and Kiyomasa clash constantly, both stubborn and quick to call each other out. In his first appearance, he respected Yukimura as a fighter and for his genuine heart.
