Holmes is a detective, though honestly not a particularly talented one. He's basically known for hanging around his apartment and dodging actual work whenever possible. Still, somehow he's managed to become famous enough to attract Hudson, his assistant and devoted follower. It's one of those things fans often find amusing—a guy who's basically terrible at his job but has accumulated enough of a reputation to have people working for him.
