He's the Captain of the Holy Justitian Chivalric Order's 1st Company, though it took him a while to get there. As a kid, he dealt with a serious inferiority complex and was basically a miserable person until Astra noticed something in him worth admiring. That recognition meant everything to him. He threw himself into swordsmanship with relentless determination, but stamina issues and behavioral problems kept him from acing his promotion exam, which opened up a gap between him and Astra that still bothers him.
The guy's never really developed close friendships, so he doesn't have great instincts about personal boundaries. He's got a sharp tongue and a childish streak, and he absolutely hates being treated like he's getting old.
What he actually loves doing is drawing—landscapes especially. He's genuinely talented at it, and he ties his hair back with a headband whenever he's working on a piece.
There's something worth noting about his childhood: he got mistaken for a girl all the time. That probably explains why he was so drawn to Astra back then, who had this unmistakably masculine confidence that contrasted completely with his own softer appearance.
His name's also a sly nod to Avenged Sevenfold, fitting with all the rock and metal references scattered throughout the series.
