Tyson's grandfather and a living kendo master who welcomed his grandson into his dojo after Yoshie's death. He's deeply committed to swordsmanship and kendo, constantly trying—without much success—to get Tyson interested in the same pursuits, though the kid had his mind on beyblading instead.
He's an enthusiastic, energetic guy who likes to be around the action. In the Japanese version, he comes across as more grounded and civilized, while the English dub leans into a "cool-yo" vibe. He's known for popping up at tournaments around the world to cheer on Team BBA, and he'd occasionally open his home to the group back in Japan. Fair warning though: he's mostly there for the laughs. That said, fans often note that he'd accidentally drop some genuinely useful beyblading wisdom on Tyson, like when he demonstrated the winder lengthening trick.
For family reasons, his dojo also housed the sword-shaped stone that trapped Seiryuu inside it.
When G Revolution rolled around, he stepped in as the fifth member of Tyson's G Revolutions team under the alias "Mr. X"—purely a temporary gig. Tyson was actively hunting for the right beyblader to round out his roster, Kai was MIA, and the Justice 5 tournament had a hard deadline for submitting the team roster, so Grandpa Kinomiya filled the slot until they found someone better suited.
