Sesshomaru's mother is a powerful dog demon introduced in chapter 466 of the InuYasha manga, making her anime debut in episode 9 of The Final Act. As an inuyoukai and former mate of the Inu no Taishou, she's the Lady of the Western lands and can shift between her massive dog form and a more human appearance.
Her personality mirrors Sesshomaru's in many ways—cool and composed—though she has a playful streak he seems to lack. When she first spots Rin and Kohaku trailing her son, she casually asks if he plans to eat them, which probably says something about where Sesshomaru picked up his initial disdain for humans. She's not overly sentimental either; when he refuses her escape route during his trial with the Meidou Stone, she actually seems mildly insulted, grumbling that he's completely lacking the charm his father had.
That said, she genuinely cares about Sesshomaru. She brings Rin back from the dead using the Meidou-Seki after seeing how devastated he becomes, and later she even asks Jaken whether her son seems happy now. Despite her cold exterior, she's got a good heart—she actually criticizes Sesshomaru for trying to weaponize the Tenseiga for destruction instead of healing. She lectures him about what the Tenseiga really demands from its wielder: compassion, love, a pure heart. It hints that she still has feelings for her late mate, rather than any lingering resentment.
Before his death, the Inu no Taishou gave her the Meidou Stone as a test for Sesshomaru, warning her that using it would put their son in grave danger. She lives in a large castle in the Western lands.
