Planchard grew up on a farm in Normandy and was the first witch in her family—which meant getting shipped off to a national training institute as a kid and essentially raising herself there. When the Neuroi invaded, she was still in her final tests, so she missed the actual fighting. After Gallia fell, she made it to Britannia with Operation Dynamo and officially joined the Free Gallian Air Force, flying a Spitfire Mk V provided by the Britannians.
She's talented—solid magical ability and strong grades—but nobody would describe her as confident or pushy. Her main issue is that she's deeply emotional and hates being alone; she'll tear up at anything intense. For a while she flew as wingman to Perrine H. Clostermann at a Britannian airbase before Clostermann got picked up by the 501st. There's something about the way Clostermann just charges forward fearlessly, willing to risk everything, that clearly gets to Planchard on a fundamental level.
