Sukoya Kokaji is a professional mahjong player best known for her commentary work in the "Saki" manga series and its spin-off "Saki: Achiga-hen episode of side-A," where she analyzes matches alongside Kouko Fukuyo. She's friends with fellow pro Yasuko Fujita.
Despite her skill, Sukoya doesn't compete in many ranked tournaments—her official ranking sits at 973. Her actual accomplishments tell a different story. She was the youngest player ever to claim eight titles (her eighth, earned about four years before the main story, is officially called "Seven Eternal Crowns"). She previously held the world's number two ranking and has racked up a silver medal from a freestyle tournament in Rio de Janeiro. Ten years back, she was part of Japan's national high school tournament championship team. She's currently undefeated domestically and was MVP every year during her time playing for Ebisu.
