Haido acquired the Book of Gelel from an overseas merchant and became obsessed with finding the Gelel vein—convinced it held the power to rule the world. Along with his subordinates Fugai, Kamira, and Ranke, he tracked the vein to a remote location. But first, he had his sights set on Temujin's village, which he believed housed the stone of Gelel. In a brutal raid, Haido and his crew wiped out the entire village and killed Temujin's parents. When Haido encountered the young Temujin amid the carnage, something changed his mind. Instead of killing him, he saw potential in the boy and took him under his wing, training him to become a loyal subordinate in his quest to locate the Vein of Gelel.
