Spopovich used to be a massive, incredibly strong fighter—the kind of guy who'd actually beaten Mr. Satan in a previous tournament. But everything changed when Babidi got into his head during the Buu Saga and corrupted him alongside Yamu. The transformation turned him into something else entirely: violent, unhinged, and way more powerful than before.
At the 25th Tenka-ichi Budoukai, Spopovich was basically Babidi's attack dog, sent to drain energy from the competitors. He got matched up against Videl in the first round and absolutely went to town on her—this was his sick chance to finally get back at Mr. Satan through his daughter. He nearly killed her. The only reason he stopped was Yamu, who still had some shred of humanity left and actually talked him down, pointing out that they didn't need to go that far for the mission.
When Gohan showed up, Spopovich and Yamu worked together. They had this special device that let them siphon his energy, though it only worked because Supreme Kai had already paralyzed him. Once they'd drained him completely, they headed back to Babidi with the goods. That's when things went south for them. Babidi decided they were no longer useful and killed Spopovich in one of the worst ways possible—a slow, agonizing explosion.
