Shirayuki's got a sharp mind and isn't afraid to speak up. She knows her way around plants and medicine, and when something needs fixing, she usually jumps in to handle it herself—though she eventually learns that relying on other people, especially Zen, isn't weakness.
Her red hair is striking enough to catch serious attention. Prince Raji from the neighboring country wants to make her his concubine, and since refusing isn't really an option, she bolts. While fleeing, she runs into a wounded guy on the road and patches him up without hesitation. That guy turns out to be Zen, a prince of the country she fled to, and he's genuinely interested in helping her. He steps in to keep Raji from dragging her back.
Once they're safe at his palace, Shirayuki applies to work as the Palace Pharmacist. It's the perfect position—gives her the freedom to move around the castle and stay close to Zen, all while putting her skills to good use.
