Manga Debut: Chapter #372
Anime Debut: Naruto Shippūden Episode #128
Yahiko was a shinobi from Amegakure and a former student of Jiraiya, alongside Nagato and Konan—the three making up what became known as the Ame Orphans.
Background
Yahiko lost his parents during the Second Shinobi World War and survived by stealing food until he met Konan, another orphan scrounging to get by. When Konan brought Nagato and his dog Chibi into their group, Yahiko was hesitant at first but eventually welcomed them. Frustrated by how unfairly the world treated them, he made a bold declaration: he'd become a god and end all the fighting.
Jiraiya found the three of them and took them under his wing, teaching them basic ninjutsu. A pivotal moment came when Nagato saved Yahiko from an Iwagakure chūnin—after that, Yahiko committed himself to becoming strong enough to protect his friends and eventually the whole village.
Once Jiraiya left Amegakure, the trio gained real notoriety as skilled ninja. Driven by their vision of peace, they became full-fledged Ame shinobi and attracted followers who shared their goal of saving the village and the world.
Personality
Yahiko's mindset was remarkably similar to Naruto's—he dreamed of leading his village and never backed down from a challenge. He had a strict "eye for an eye" code and despised how the world viewed Amegakure. The endless rain plagued him like tears, and he swore to stop it and protect his people. Ultimately, he wanted to rule the world to prevent all wars.
Naturally, Yahiko emerged as the leader of the three orphans. He was the one who approached Jiraiya asking for food and training, and he looked out for Nagato and Konan like an older brother. He pushed Nagato not to cry and to toughen up—though ironically, Yahiko himself broke down when Jiraiya eventually left them. His belief in Nagato's potential never wavered.
Abilities
Yahiko could perform water-based jutsu, most notably Water Release: Violent Water Wave, where he'd expel a powerful jet of water from his mouth.
