Hizashi Hyuuga was a member of the prestigious Hyuuga Clan, best known as Neji's father and the younger twin brother of Hiashi. He was also uncle to Hinata and Hanabi.
The defining moment of Hizashi's life came when Hiashi killed a shinobi from the Hidden Cloud Village who had kidnapped Hinata to steal the Byakugan. As punishment for this, the Cloud demanded Hiashi's death. Rather than let his brother die, Hizashi stepped in—he disabled Hiashi and took his place, sacrificing himself instead. Though he resented the rigid hierarchy of the Hyuuga Clan, he believed this was the right choice.
That sacrifice became a major source of pain for Neji, who grew up harboring deep resentment about the circumstances of his father's death and the clan's unforgiving structure.
