Ami was an Academy student from the Leaf Village who showed up briefly in a flashback during Ino and Sakura's ninja school days. She's best known for mocking Sakura about her forehead during a kunoichi training session—which turned out to be a bad move. Ino jumped to Sakura's defense by tossing a flower into Ami's mouth, claiming it was poisonous. Ami didn't stick around to find out if she was telling the truth; she bolted straight to their instructor Suzume to complain.
Not much else is known about her since she only appears in that one scene. She had purple hair styled similarly to Karin's.
