He's a classmate of Harutora, Touji, and Natsume at their school. The Yakou Disciple incident pulled him into the supernatural world somewhat by accident—he got caught in a shikigami attack meant for Harutora—but after hearing Harutora's plea, he decided to help rescue Natsume. Since then, he's kept getting dragged into cult-related situations despite being on the cowardly and physically weak side. That said, he's actually pretty well-informed about what's happening in the onmyodo community, and he occasionally helps Harutora study by sharing his notes.
